The Gutierrez Family This Family has been part of our After School Family for two years. This year however, Rebecca has become more involved in our program and has shared with us her passion for singing. In addition, her parents help us with Family Engagements Events. They have recently donated a sound system for our students to enjoy. We are grateful for the Gutierrez Family!

This is 4th grader, Alaina Munoz and her dad Mr. Funner during parent pick-up time. Alaina has been in the after-school program at Rosa Parks for a little over 2 years now. She came to Target Excellence quiet, passive and distant . After encouraging her and giving her leadership roles and responsibilities, Alaina now runs her class as a role model should. She upholds certain expectation with her peers, is warm and polite to them but has also learned to be assertive. . The best part of the After School Program is when all grades come together and enjoy fun and laughter. Her hobbies are doing gymnastics, running and sports. Alaina Is destined for greatness. It’s been a joy having her around and watching her blossom into a well-spoken leader.

David Rodriguez is a very kind and generous students that goes out of his way to help others without expecting anything in return. David is a strong will and motivated student that always find ways to learn more about things he is struggling with; if he needs help, he is not afraid to ask and when he needs things done, he would take his time to do things diligently and thoroughly. David Rodriguez is a student that won’t disappoint and will always put his best work into play. David Rodriguez is the epitome of a model student; he is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone just to make us laugh and feel comfortable with each other. I believe that David is an intellect with helping others, because he always put his needs last to put other’s needs before him

King Anton Jackson is 6 years old and this is his first year as part of the Target Excellence after school program. When King first entered the program, he had a hard time being away from Mom and cried every day for the first few weeks. He was always very sad to be away from his family, including his 5-year-old sister Faye and his baby sister Lanya who is only a few months old. King didn’t like to stay for program because he didn’t really know what the program was about, and he was very shy which made it hard for him to engage in any of the activities and he always wanted to go home early. What made King comfortable was getting to meet new friends and getting to do fun activities he hadn’t done before. He credits his friend Esmeralda for helping him feel better about the program and showing him how fun program could be. Now he’s happy to stay and always wants to participate. When mom comes to pick him up, he doesn’t want to go home because he’s having so much fun playing Lego’s with his friends Dominic, Stephen, and Andrew! Kings favorite parts about Target Excellence include Sparks Play, Cooking Club, cup stacking and getting free play on the playground. Kings Instructional Aides are all very proud of how far he has come in program and are excited to see how happy and willing he is to participate. King has come a long way from his first days at program, he is always very friendly and helpful with all his classmates and shows up with a bright smile on his face and a positive attitude. Keep up the great work King!
